QWA News Bulletin March

A BIG thank you to the very professional group of Technical Officials who officiated at last weekends Uesaka Barbell Australia League Round 1 at Cougars Weightlifting Club; and also the host club for their support in running this event.

Thank you to all those clubs who were able to attend the Special General meeting of the QWA on Saturday - the support you demonstrated by attending this meeting was greatly appreciated.

Please note there has been a change of venue for the Queensland Senior & Junior Championships - from Brisbane Barbell to Cougars Weightlifting Club Chandler.

The QWA is trialling moving Club competition entries online to facilitate organisation at both Club and QWA office level. There is no fee attached to this service for Clubs. Lifters will be able to lift at Club competitions other than their own by registering online. External entries from non-club members may be capped at a specific number. Competition entry fees will need to be collected by the Club themselves if they charge an entry fee. Please email if you would like any further information about this. The Cougars Open Club competition on the 11th March is the first to trial this system. Entries for that competition close this Saturday.

The Australian International to be held in Melbourne 17-19 March is fast approaching. 36 Queenslanders take up part of the full field of 239 athletes. This large competition also needs volunteers to assist in the running of the competition. I will be contacting those that are entered to encourage them to commit to assisting the Victorian Weightlifting Association ensure this competition is a success.

Paul Coffa has let us know of the release of the following Weightlifting specific reference book: Dr. Antonio Urso, President of the European Weightlifting Federation for the past two years has produced an excellent scientific book on weightlifting. Below you will find the link which gives you information on how to purchase the book.

The Australian Weightlifting Federation has launched the myAWF mobile application. The app allows users to show their association with the Australian Weightlifting Federation, whether the licensee is an accredited coach, technical official, an athlete, or all three. Additionally the app gives the user access to a percentage calculator, and Sinclair calculator.

You  will find further information on how to access this at

Please note this app is only available to those that have renewed their membership in 2017.
