The Queensland State Senior & Junior Championships was a fantastic event with 129 entries received. The competition ran over two days at Cougars Weightlifting Club, Chandler, Brisbane on the weekend of the 1-2 April 2017. Numerous new personal best’s lifts were recorded as the athletes competed fiercely to take out the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in each session.
Best Senior Female: Erika Yamasaki of Cougars Weightlifting Club with a Sinclair competition ranking of 238.253 points.
Best Senior Male lifter: Brandon Wakeling of the Gold Coast Weightlifting Club with 356.978 Sinclair points.
Best Junior Female: Maddison Black of Cougars Weightlifting Club with 194.438 Sinclair points
Best Junior Male: Liam Saxby of Centenary Weightlifting Club with 306.423 Sinclair points.
William Faulkner Performance Award trophies went to:
Senior female: Christine Reid of North Brisbane Weightlifting Club with a score of 4321.989 Forbes points.
Senior male: David De Rose from Cairns Green Ants with a score of 7467.261
Junior female: Robin Parr of Cougars Weightlifting Club 1838.670
Junior male: Joshua Stenhouse of Saints Weightlifting Club 5833.499
New Masters records were set by David De Rose (AWF & Qld), Lisa Souter, Melissa Robinson and Tara Noonan (Qld). New U15 Queensland record set by Maddison Power of the Gold Coast Weightlifting Club, with a snatch of 45kg lifting in the 53kg category.
It was also great to see a number of our past Queensland lifters back on the competition platform – David De Rose, Deborah Acason, Robin Parr and Shane Wagner – welcome back!!!
