***News Update***

We are on the final count down to the start of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Weightlifting Competition at the Gold Coast.Only 2 more sleeps till the first athlete sets foot on the weightlifting platform!!

We wish the following Queensland:

  • Competition Management team members - lead by Ian Moir, of Bowen Stuart, Craig Wegert, and Honorary Queenslander Linda Eades all the best for a smooth running competition.
  • Athletes –  Alyce Stephenson, Tia Clair Toomey, Deborah Acason, Brandon Wakeling and Damon Kelly all the best in their final preparations.
  • Coaches – Miles Wydall and Greg Hobl;
  • Technical Officials – Debra Keelan, Lawrie Townsend, Coral Quinell, Mike Keelan, Moni Kami, Kylie Booth, Melissa Robinson and Luke Gardner;
  • And the very large number of QWA members working as Volunteers at the Games, a truly memorable time at this HOME Commonwealth Games.

Let the Games begin!!

Thank you to all of those involved in the very successful Qld Masters Championships held at the Milton Weightlifting Club 24-25th March. We had 91 entries – a new participation record for this age-group.

We saw great lifting, PB’s and new records, and a number of battles for medals over the weekend of lifting.

The Best Lifter awards were also a close battle:

With Diana Loy taking out first place with 211.504, minutely ahead of Rachel Nicola with 211.380

And only just ahead of Bronwyn Hitchener on 211.366.

The men followed on in a similar but not quite so close result with Ron Fraser placing first with 333, followed by Colin Schram on 319 and in 3rd place Tim Redhead on 318.

It was also a successful weekend on the Officiating front with 5 Club Referees upgrading to State Level referee. Congratulations to: Timothy Hitchener, Kim Walker, Robert Binskin, Julie Hind and Rebecca Hopf!!

A big thank you to Milton Weightlifting Club for all their hard work and wonderful hospitality. It was a most enjoyable competition.
