Qualifying For Events

  • I just want to easily find out the requirements?
    Use the QWA Qualifying Calculator to work out what you need to do by when for all Club, State, National and International Competitions for U15, Youth, Junior and Senior and Masters athletes.
  • What age group am I in?
    Under 15: competitors are Under 15 up until 1st January in the year that they turn 16
    ie if on Jan 1 of that year you were still 14 you are U15

    Youth (U17): competitors are Youth up until 1st January in the year that they turn 18
    ie if on Jan 1 of that year you were still 16 you are U17

    Junior (U20): competitors are Junior up until 1st January in the year that they turn 21
    ie if on Jan 1 of that year you were still 19 you are U20

    Senior/Open: competitors of any age

    Masters: competitors are Masters from 1st January in the year that they turn 35 (Note masters is different)
    eg if during that year you turn 40 you are in the 40-44 category

    Masters Age Groups 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79, 80+

  • How do I Qualify for Qld Championships
    The qualifying period for the Queensland Senior Championships is 19th March 2016 – 19th March 2017.
    The minimum standard for entry in the Queensland Senior Championships is AWF D1 Grade for Women and C2 Grade for Men.

    The qualifying period for the Queensland Junior Championships is 19th March 2016 – 19th March 2017.
    The minimum standard for entry in the Queensland Junior Championships is AWF D2 Grade.

    There is no minimum qualifying standard for Queensland Under 15, Youth, School, or Masters Championships.
  • How do I qualify for National Championships and International Events

    To be eligible to be selected to represent the QWA at the National Senior and/or Championships, athletes must compete in the respective Queensland Senior and/or Junior Championships

    To be eligible to be selected to represent the QWA at the National U15 and/or National Youth Championships, athletes must compete in the respective Queensland U15 and/or Youth Championships.

    To be eligible to be selected to represent the QWA at the National Masters Championships, athletes must compete in the respective Queensland Masters Championships.

    An exemption from these conditions may apply in special circumstances. Refer to Section 2 of the QWA Team Selection Policy.
