2021 National Masters – Cairns

Our team of 40 QLD athletes went to Cairns for the National Masters Championships the weekend of the 10-12 September.  The QLD and NT athletes were able to lift in person in Cairns, and were joined by the other states and a few international athletes through the online streaming function of the event. Thank you to the AWF tech gurus, Ian Moir and Bowen Stuart.

While there were a few hiccups at the start of the event our athletes adapted and rolled with the punches and came out on top. The hybrid event found its feet after a few sessions, and then after that our athletes were on fire!!! Numerous personal bests, state records and national records were broken.
We had 6 athletes win the age champion titles – Meg Emerton (W65), Elizabeth Buikstra (W50), Yolandie Weir (W35), Dion Walmsley (M55), Steven Graham(M45) and Kelly Weatherstone (M35). Congratulations not only to these athletes but to all the athletes involved.

2021 Queensland team – National Masters Cairns.

The overall best female lifter award went to Yolandie Weir of Cougars Weightlifting Club.

We are still waiting to hear back from the AWF Masters Panel about the team trophies but we had such a strong team I would not be surprised if they don’t turn up in the QWA office soon!! Keep an eye on our socials, as we will make a post there as soon as we have the results. The competition results can be found here https://www.awf.com.au/statistics/competitions/results/id/2480

Thank you to the QWA Coaching Team for all the work they put into supporting all of our Queensland lifters. Numerous PB’s and records were set over the course of the competition.
