2021 Q Seniors F71KG – F87+KG; M89KG – M109+KG EVENT

After holding our breath all the week prior to the re-scheduled event, COVID thankfully kept its distance and we were able to complete the Q Seniors Championships that had initially kicked off at the end of July.

With the change in date to the 18th September, we did see a few lifters no longer able to fit competing in the event into their schedules, in particular those lifting in the online Oceania Senior Championships the following week.

Included in the rescheduled event were 2 NQ lifters who had already travelled to Brisbane for Part A of the event in July. Thank you to Bowen Stuart for organising their participation via Teams and the live-streaming of the event.

Special guests that joined us on the day were Peter Phillips 1972 Weightlifting Olympian, and our newest Weightlifting Olympian Charisma Amoe-Tarrant; and Maurie Carmichael, Bob Henderson and Neil Thomson of weightlifting fame in the 70’s.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and Technical Officials, and in particular host Club – Cougars for once again fronting up to run an excellent event.

Congratulations to Scott Mark on successfully upgrading to National referee status!

With a further rescheduling of the AWF National Senior Championships in the wings now that World Seniors are on the same December dates, we are hopeful of advice of the new date for the National Seniors by the end of this week. A reminder also that the QWA Management Committee has approved for this event only that the prerequisite for competing at the State Senior championships is not required for this 2021 event. However, the D Grade qualifying standard is required to be met by 24th October (this date may also change, so make sure you make the most of any upcoming competition opportunities to check off your qualifying standard). Reminder – get in early and order your QWA Lifting suit if you are entering the National Seniors event.
