Applications are called for Team Leader, Head Coach, Staff Coaches and Assistant/Personal Coaches for the 2024 AWF Senior Championships in Sydney, 31 August & 1 September.

Applicants must hold current QWA membership, and Blue Card linked with the QWA, and must not be competing or otherwise involved in the event they apply for.

Appointed TL, HC & SC staff will be provided with economy class airfares, and shared accommodation during the event. Shared funded ground transport at the event may be provided subject to the QWA budget at the time of the event.

  • Head Coach: AWF Level 2 Coach Accreditation + State Technical Officiating qualification
  • Staff Coach: AWF Level 1 Coach Accreditation + State Technical Officiating qualification

QWA Team Staff Role Descriptions

  • The TL is the highest position within the QWA representative team and works closely with the QWA Operations Manager (OM) and Head Coach regarding all administrative tasks
  • Collate QWA Team entry lists containing contact details of team athletes, parents of minors and personal coaches
  • Generate an email group re the above stakeholders
  • Generate a FB group for athletes, appointed staff and personal coaches
  • Set up Group Messenger Chat for appointed staff and ACs
  • Send out an email by way of Team Leader introduction and containing other pertinent information – in particular the need for all staff & athletes to submit a medical form & all athletes to complete mandatory anti-doping education
  • Immediately notify Head Coach re bodyweight changes or athlete withdrawals
  • Produce & circulate QWA Team Athlete Handbook via email and at the same time reiterate important information
  • In concert with Head Coach check for any mistakes within the VOE. Should mistakes be identified corrections must be made via the AWF portal prior to VOE final cut off
  • Check event schedule for any changes that may have occurred since publication of preliminary entries
  • In concert with Head Coach generate a weigh-in and platform coaching roster
  • Organise the Team photo and once taken send to OM and QWA Social Media Manager
  • Where possible collect video/photographic content throughout the event to be passed on to Social Media Manager
  • Organise snacks and drinks for Head Coach and platform coaches where it is not possible for personnel to leave the competition area themselves
  • Assist with weigh-ins if and when required
  • Conduct a meeting with ALL team personnel the night before the national event commences and at the end of each day’s competition
  • In concert with OM deal with any reported disputes or negative behaviour in a timely, confidential manner
  • Generate a national event report incorporating the information received from the HC
  • Assist with the production & distribution of a post event survey
  • Where the appointed Team Leader has qualifications in coaching or officiating these may be utilised at the discretion of the Head Coach & OM during the event
  • Share personal coaching philosophy and vision in a statement to all team members once appointed
  • Direct, plan, coordinate and manage team activities pre-during-post national event including squad training arrangements in concert with TL
  • Schedule and spearhead pre national event activities
  • Create emotionally and physically safe training and competition environments throughout appointment period
  • Model and teach ethical behaviour at all times
  • Be ultimately accountable to QWA for team performance
  • In collaboration with coaches closely monitor athlete bodyweights
  • Sets tone for High Performance behaviours and team culture
  • Supports and trusts team coaches to make good decisions
  • Be prepared to question team coach decisions
  • Communicate, collaborate, educate and support fellow team members (TL, SCs, ACs and athletes) prior to, during and post national event
  • Maintain high level of interpersonal relations with Team Leader (TL), Staff Coaches (SC), Assistant Coaches (AC), Operations Manager (OM) and team athletes
  • Obtain copies of current team athlete performance records
  • Prepare activity roster for each SC and AC who will be engaged in identified roles pre-during competition and discuss relevant athlete performance records with assigned coach; including supervision of Anti-doping
  • Collaborate with appointed and personal coaches to establish agreement regarding the formulation of an individualised competition plan
  • Supervise and analyse SC and AC performances prior to and during the national event
  • Determine which athletes should receive Team Trophies and be in full attendance at the cessation of the national event
  • Report any disputes arising between Staff and Assistant Coaches to TL
  • Report any dispute arising between SCs, ACs and team athletes to TL
  • Post national event prepare and present report on individual coaching and athlete performances and any identified needs for improvement
  • Continually improve through self-reflection, mentoring, professional development, evaluation and self-care
  • Be accountable to HC for all decisions
  • Support the TL and HC to enhance high performance behaviours and QWA team culture
  • Have the confidence to suggest tactical manoeuvres and reach decisions with HC
  • Be prepared to listen to HC and accepts HC has the final call
  • Make a positive contribution to all team activities pre-during-post national event
  • Display and act out being a positive role model in order to show others how to appropriately conduct themselves
  • Utilise your recognized skills and attributes that won you an appointment to help other staff members, ACs and athletes develop and improve
  • Work closely with HC and PC to draft strategies contained within the individual competition plan
  • Positively influence team members regarding their social, personal, psychological and health status
  • Communicate at a level which shows respect and understanding to fellow staff and team athletes
  • Be a good `team’ player at all times working collaboratively with the TL, HC, Staff and Assistant Coaches as well as the all-important team athletes
