News in from the QWA Management Committee:
Qualification periods for State events will be 12 months prior to the corresponding State Championships
Funding from Queensland Government:
The QWA was successful in obtaining a $20,000 Workforce Development grant to be delivered on, between June 2023-May 2024. Activities include a coaching conference, education for Management Committee & Athlete Advisory Group members, and education for Technical Officials.
The QWA has been very fortunate over the years to have received significant funding from the Queensland Government. Audits of sporting organisations by the Queensland Government has seen our Base funding cut back and projected to see the following continued cutbacks. The Government is very pleased with our wide spread of clubs across the State however they would like to see significant increases in our participation numbers.
2022-2023 financial year $85,320 We are currently working with Government to decide on deliverables to be met with this funding.
2023-2024 financial year $55,160
2024-2025 financial year $25,000 There will be releases of additional programs during this period that we will be able to use to top-up this amount.
Facilities:
The QWA has been advised that their lease of the area at Sleeman Sports Complex will terminate June 30 2024 to make way for redevelopment of the site for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, A multi-court indoor sports centre is set to be built on the site.
The news of this has been communicated to Cougars Weightlifting Club a long-term resident of the Sleeman Sports Complex since 1987.
We wish them well with their plans for moving offsite and of note North Brisbane Weightlifting Association are also faced with the same challenge. However the NBWA has less lead time with December 2023 being their set exit date.
If anyone in the QWA or friends, supporters of the QWA have any ideas around suitable venues to move to please reach out to the clubs involved.
