  1. Athletes enter all Club competitions, Qld Championships, and National Championships online via the QWA website. Payment of applicable entry fees are made online in this process.
  2. Entries must be registered with fees fully paid prior to the cut-off date advertised by QWA for the competition. No late entries will be accepted.

APPLYING FOR EXEMPTION FOR QLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Athletes must apply for an exemption through the registration process for the competition on the QWA website, selecting the option to apply for exemption.

All details must be provided including the reason for applying for the exemption, and the fee (equal to competition entry fee) must be paid in full. This process must be completed well in advance to allow time for these exemption applications to be reviewed and approved by close of entries. Applying late for exemptions or failing to pay the fee may result in the exemption being void.

CLUB BASED COMPETITIONS (no verification process required)

** There is no verification process for Club competitions, so there is NO need to notify of any weight category or entry total change.

VERIFICATION PROCESS AND RULES

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS & NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The following rules apply to ALL State Championship and National Championships.

Please always also refer to the relevant Competition Regulations Document which is distributed during the entry period.

ALL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET. Check qualification totals and dates carefully.

  1. Athletes must initially enter the competition in the bodyweight category in which they have achieved qualification in competition.
  2. Athletes may enter in a heavier category only if they have achieved a Total within the qualifying period that meets or exceeds the minimum qualifying standard for the heavier category.
  3. Athletes should enter their best recent total as the Entry Total.
  4. Athletes and coaches should make themselves aware of minimum lift requirements which will apply to the competition. This will be outlined in the Competition Regulations document.

CHANGING WEIGHT CATEGORIES PRIOR TO COMPETITION

  1. Entrants may move up to a heavier category only if they have achieved a Total within the qualifying period that meets or exceeds the minimum qualifying standard for the heavier category.
  2. Entrants may move down to a lighter category only if they have achieved the minimum qualifying standard for the lighter category while actually competing in that category during the qualification period.
  3. For State Championships, Athletes must discuss these matters with their personal Coach, and any request for change of weight category must be received by the QWA Operations Manager via email, strictly by the cut-off date and time advertised by QWA.
  4. For National Championships, any changes will be discussed with the Qld Coaching Staff in the leadup to competition, and changes will be carried out by the Qld Coaching Staff prior to verification date/time.

CHANGING ENTRY TOTAL – 20kg RULE

The total combined weight of the starting attempts declared at weigh-in and actually taken in the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk must equal or exceed the weight of the verified Entry Total minus twenty (20) kg. The Jury will exclude the athlete from the competition if this rule is not adhered to.

The above rule is commonly referred to as the “20kg Rule”.

In other words, an athletes starting Snatch and CJ weights must add together to be no greater than 20kg under their registered entry total. (There is no issue if they add together to be more than the entry total).

  1. State Championships – The athletes starting weights should be discussed carefully with their personal coach, and if for any reason their registered Entry Total needs to be reduced, this should be notified via Email to the QWA Operations Manager by the advertised closing date/time for changes to be made.
  2. National Championships – Qld Coaching Personnel will collate each athletes starting weights and data from personal coaches, and any necessary changes to Entry Totals will be made by Qld Coaching Personnel during the verification process.

Anyone of any age who competes in weightlifting can be tested at any time for the presence of prohibited substances.
In Australia, drug testing in sport is conducted by a Federal Government agency called the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA).
Athletes must comply with the testing procedure or face the prospect of registering an anti-doping rule violation for failing to comply. An anti-doping rule violation usually leads to a suspension from all organised sports, not just weightlifting, for up to two years.
Everyone who competes in organised sport should take extra care with things such as nutritional supplements and medicines. Some supplement products that are legally available to the general public may contain substances that are prohibited in sport; and some prescribed medicines may also be prohibited in sport.
For more information about anti-doping and prohibited substances, see the Sport Integrity Australia website.
