This year’s ‘The Chartist’ QLD Senior Championships is one competition with twice the opportunity to qualify.
Queensland Weightlifting Association has been invited by NSWWA to participate in a Queensland vs New South Wales weightlifting event at this year‘s AusFitness Expo in Sydney.
The new national qualifying standards has heavily impacted the participation of our members at national championships. This QLD vs NSW opportunity was born out of the need and desire to ensure members who are now ineligible for national championships or yet to achieve the new grades have a pathway to participate at higher levels of competition in their journey toward the new standards.
The format of this event is as follows:
- Each state enters a team of 8 females + 1 reserve, 8 males + 1 reserve
- 4 athletes in the women’s bodyweight classes of 45-64, 4 athletes in women’s bodyweight classes 71 to 87+, 1 reserve of any bodyweight class.
- 4 athletes in the men’s bodyweight classes of 55-81, 4 athletes in the men’s bodyweight classes 89 to 109+, 1 reserve of any bodyweight class.
- The reserve can be used to fill either session.
- Final team score is calculated by combined athlete Sinclair.
- Each NSW v QLD session will have 8 lifters.
- Light male and female sessions will be on Saturday 12 October. Heavy male and female sessions will be on Sunday 13 October.
For this event, eligible athletes are those who have not totalled the 2024 AWF Senior Nationals qualifying total for any bodyweight class at any point in their career. At this stage we are looking for expressions of interest.
- This is an AWF sanctioned event.
- We have been informed that there will not be enough space for each athlete to have their personal coach in attendance.
- Because this event is in addition to our regular interstate events, the QWA will be asking that all those selected to contribute $150pp to support funding of coaching and support staff travel.
- Flights and accommodation will be the responsibility of the athletes (efforts will be made to obtain group rates for flights and accommodation)
- Qualifying window for this event will close 25th of August, 2024.
- Only those who send an expression of interest will receive an invitation after qualifications have closed.
- Invitations will be sent the 26th of August.
- Invitations will need to be accepted by the 1st of September, after which the spot will be backfilled.
- Final Teams announced Tuesday 10th of September.
- Final verification Thursday 10th of October 2024.
