Coaching Personnel and Support Staff at QWA Events
Following on from last night’s QWA Management Committee meeting we wish to advise the following:
To ensure the QWA meets its Safeguarding responsibilities for all members we wish to advise that it is a requirement that personnel in the warm-up and competition area at State competitions are required to have a minimum of an AWF Level 1 Coaching accreditation1, or be under the supervision of a pre-organised AWF accredited coach when preparing an athlete for their competition session.
Where Under 18’s are competing, it is mandatory to have a current Blue Card, and to have it on you during the event. Free Volunteer Blue Cards and Exemption Cards are available by registering with Blue Card services at: Apply for a blue card or exemption card | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government and then notify the QWA of your Blue Card reference number via email to qwa@qwa.org for endorsement of your volunteer status.
If you don’t have the necessary coaching qualification to support your athlete at an event you can check for an AWF accredited coach at Australian Weightlifting Federation > EDUCATION > COACHES > ACCREDITED COACHES Find out how to become an accredited AWF coach here: Australian Weightlifting Federation > EDUCATION > COACHES > COURSES
The QWA will be letting its accredited coach population know that there may be a need for their services where you yourself cannot meet the requirements above yourself.
Email qwa@qwa.org for details of coaches that have indicated that they are available to provide this service2 at the specific event you require assistance with.
The AWF Coach Education Program approved by the NCAS ensures a minimum level of coaching education to support safe participation and progression in the sport, with the addition of abiding by strict code of conduct, and an understanding of sports integrity policies and practices.1
There may be a fee attached to the procurement of this service – negotiated independent of the QWA.2
Volunteers needed for State Masters & Oly in the Outback
Technical official roles (referee, timekeeper, TC, Marshal) 7 spots per session are listed as generic TO roles and will be allocated to specific roles when the roster is put together. This will assist in efforts for members to upgrade their TO qualification. Assessments will be possible for upgrade to State level referee, but not National or above.
