QWA All Schools

The QWA All Schools event will be held at Burleigh Barbell Club. A BIG thank you to Alex Croot, Scott Mark and Callum Hannay for the work they have already done in organising a platform for the event.

Technical Official Appointments

A number of QWA TO’s have applied to sit upgrades at the upcoming National Championships in Townsville. We wish them every success with this. In addition a number of our qualified TO’s will be on hand to ensure the efficient running of the event.

Government Funding Program

The QWA has been very fortunate in receiving funds from the Queensland Government for a significant number of years now. The Government has now released its new Active Industry Base Fund guidelines for the 2023-2025 period. https://www.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/364303/AIBF-Program-Guidelines.pdf A significant focus of the new funding is in the area of building and strengthening the capability’s of organisations to service Queensland’s current and emerging needs resulting in improved participation opportunities. Separate Participation funding will be released at a later date.

Coach Development

Jackson Solofa of Ipswich Weightlifting Club was successful in gaining part funding from the AWF to enable him to attend the National Level Coaching Course held in Canberra in January.

Leanne Knox QWA Vice President is currently working on the rollout of coaching development activities in regional Queensland. These activities will also include online elements so that all QWA Coaches can benefit from this activity.

2022 State Seniors Survey Summary:

Avoid competition dates clashing with major events;

Athletes happy with current media coverage of events;

Split results regarding those willing to travel for competitions.

Wellbeing Strategy

The QWA Management Committee in consultation with the Queensland Government have endorsed the launch of the QWA Wellbeing Strategy. The project leader for this initiative is Fraser Harrison. More information about this will be circulated shortly.

Physique Science QWA Club Challenge

The QWA wishes to formally thank the AWF, and in particular Bowen Stuart, for his assistance with the streamlining of reporting of our Club Challenge competition. This has significantly decreased the administrative load associated with the running of this program of events. Thankyou!

News from the AWF

The competition flexibility we experienced as we navigated the COVID landscape has now been tightened up.

Please note that adding new competitions to the calendar after the 2023 competition year begins will not be permitted. Changes to existing events will be allowed with a minimum of 14 days’ notice, as usual. Please remember to provide Sport Integrity Australia with the competition schedules and entry lists of all of your State and Club events by emailing the details to national.testing@sportintegrity.gov.au prior to the event.
