The QWA in collaboration with Jade Sharp from Bribie Island Weightlifting Club submitted an application to the Queensland Government for funding in their AIPF Super Fund round release focused on Youth. The QWA is very excited to be able to report that a dedicated Youth Pathway Program spanning the period 2024 – 2026 received approval and financial assistance of $86,000 by the Queensland Government.
Aim of program:
To elevate youth engagement and participation in Olympic Weightlifting in QLD by
designing and delivering programs, workshops, and resources that inspire growth and
enjoyment in the sport. This role emphasises enriching youth experiences and improving
retention while driving increased participation through strategic partnerships, school
outreach, and initiatives that support sustainable, long-term development within the
weightlifting community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Implementation
Design, implement, and evaluate innovative weightlifting programs, workshops,
and resources tailored for youth athletes to enhance their experience and
encourage long-term involvement in the sport. - Youth Engagement and Retention Strategies
Develop and execute strategies to improve youth retention by fostering a positive,
inclusive environment that promotes personal growth, skill development, and
enjoyment in weightlifting. - Partnership and Collaboration
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with schools, community organisations,
and sporting bodies to increase awareness and accessibility of youth weightlifting
programs. - Outreach and Awareness Campaigns
Lead initiatives to promote weightlifting in schools and local communities through
targeted outreach, events, and education, raising the sport’s profile among youn
athletes and their families. - Sustainability and Long-Term Development
Support initiatives and policies that ensure the long-term growth and sustainability
of youth weightlifting, including coach development, funding opportunities, and pathways for progression.
