State Senior Championships Wrap-up

With the setting in of cold weather here in SE Queensland its hard to remember that only 10 days ago we were soaking up the warm sunshine in sunny Townsville for the QWA State Senior Championships 20-21 May at Thunder Barbell Club.

We had 67 entries, all having to achieve AWF I Grade to be eligible to compete . NQ QWA members made the most of the “home” Championships with 17 lifters from Townsville, Cairns & Whitsundays participating. Athletes, coaches, Technical officials from the rest of Queensland travelled from the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Miles, and Brisbane – thank you all for supporting this event in regional Queensland.

Sincere thanks to the army of volunteers who came together for the event.

We appreciate everyone who lent a hand, from our venue set-up squad to our technical officials and bar loaders. Our strong community is what makes Queensland Weightlifting so great.

Special thanks to our VIP guests who visited us over the weekend – Mayor of Townsville Jenny Hill and Councilor Maurie Soars.

Mayor of Townsville Cnr Jenny Hill congratulated Birmingham Commonwealth Games Silver medalist Sarah Cochrane
on her record breaking performances of the day.

The live stream services went next level at the event with Brent Vaughan of Brent Things & Stuff producing videos on demand for athletes in the competition. In all 20 athletes made the most of this opportunity to capture digital memories of the event, with the QWA tagged in each one we saw our engagement numbers increase.
