Townsville Hub Event results & QWA calendar change information

The 2021 AWF National U23 & Junior Championships had 94 entries across the nation that met the minimum qualifying standard of G Grade for the U23’s and I Grade for the Juniors.

The Qld State hub event was held in Townsville at Thunder Barbell Club. It was great seeing a sea of maroon at the airport once again. We had athletes come from as far south as the Gold Coast, and west as Miles, amongst the competitors. Along with the 31 entries in the Qld Hub National event we had a further 16 entries in the Open competition.

After the results were crunched by the AWF we saw Queensland take out the Junior Men’s team trophy, and tie with WA for the Junior Women’s team trophy.

Tori Gallegos of Toowoomba took out the best National Female Junior overall trophy with a Sinclair of 235.02 points.

Our Queensland team were in great hands with coaches Miles Wydall, Greg Hobl, Callum Hannay, and Bryce Knight looking after
them, under the watchful eye of event Team Manager Jackson Solofa. A BIG thankyou to Jemma Cowper for all the work she did as the pre-event Team Manager. It certainly made for extra work the new requirement of collecting Anti-Doping certificates from all the athletes.

Most improved lifters across the combined Queensland competition:

Female: Alex Falkenmire from Whitsundays coached by Leanne Knox
Male: Aiden Simkin Thunder Barbell coached by Bryce Knight

They each collected a QWA back pack.

A number of International Level referees travelled up to the event to staff a Jury for the entire competition, this enabled upgrades from Club to State Referee, and State to National referee. Congratulations to our newest National Referee Jim Mildren from Cairns.

A BIG thank you to the members of Thunder Barbell Club for all the work that that was put into making the event so successful. Tribe Café themselves deserve a medal for all the fantastic food on hand at the event.
